International Teenagers' Echo
Rules - v5.05 (07/04/95)
Updated by Anthony Frazier
-=-=- General Guidelines
Echo Tag : TEEN
Echo Title: International Teenagers' Echo
- Rules Posting -
These rules will be posted, oh, every so often, since I (the moderator) haven't
bothered to set up anything fancy to automate monthly postings. What will
likely end up happening is I'll go on this run and post them constantly, then
stop. Then someone will ask what they are and I'll start posting them again.
:-) Worst case scenario should be a monthly posting.
- Age Limits -
Basically, the limits here are 7th grade to undergraduate college level.
Officially, the limits are from 13 to 25. Why 25? Because there are less
problems with people under that age. I know quite a few 20 somethings that I
can just kinda hang around with. Sure, there are some older people that can
act like teenagers too, but they generally end up being the kind of person you
wish you hadn't met. =)
Sysops: If a user is considered to be in the restricted age group (under 13),
please direct them to the KIDS echo, also on the Fidonet Backbone. If a user
is over 25, then I'm sure they can find other areas in which to write.
- Disclaimer -
Some of this echo's traffic may offend some people. I make no warranty or
guarantee of any of the traffic in this echo, expressed or implied. If you
don't like it, then you can either cope or leave. Do what you will, but don't
whine to ME about it. I can only do so much.
-=-=- TEEN Rules
- Foreword -
These rules will begin to be enforced upon your receipt of the message, or
after reasonable time that this message has got around throughout the echo. I
also reserve the right to alter these rules in any way, shape, or form, with or
without warning. Such updates will be posted separate from the rules. Also,
these rules are not absolutes, and they do not define all such possible
annoying behaviors possible. This means that I'm giving myself room to do what
I want, when I want to.
- Rules -
1. I consider this to be the most important: Have fun!!! :-)
2. Handles are STRONGLY discouraged in this echo. However, if you can't/won't
change it, then your full real name (first and last) must be visible in the
message somewhere. (No, ^A Realname doesn't cut it. ;-)
3. Profanity: It doesn't bother me any, as long as it's used in moderation. I
know I can swear up a storm with the best of 'em, but I try to exercise a
little control. <grin> I suggest you do too. A good rule of thumb is to
not do anything that you don't hear on prime-time TV.
4. Flaming is not permitted under any circumstances. What is a flame?
Basically anything insulting and said to demean or belittle someone else in
the echo. Speak what you will, how you will, but don't go insulting other
people to their faces. (or monitors, as the case may be. =)
5. Slander is not permitted under any circumstances. What is slander?
Basically anything insulting and said to demean or belittle someone else in
the echo. Speak what you will, how you will, but don't go insulting other
people to someone else's faces. (or monitors, as the case may be. =) ;-)
6. Don't go playing moderator. The moderator(s) is/are here for a purpose,
which, among others, is to keep things relatively calm here. I don't mind
seeing users or sysops help a newbie out with the rules a little bit, but
if you think someone is breaking the rules, and you don't see any immediate
action, send a moderator a little something.
7. Advertisements are not allowed without prior permission from a moderator.
But don't post them yourself either. A moderator will put the ad into the
echo. Of course, this means you have to either give me a copy of the ad
outside of the echo somehow.
8. This echo is not to be a breeding ground for illegal activities either.
This includes many things, from pirating, pyramid schemes, chain letters,
etc. Anything illegal in the US is illegal here. Why? Because I live in
the US and don't have the time or incentive to go and look up laws for
other countries. I think you all can make your own judgements anyway.
9. Sex. Hmm... How best to describe this? Well, I really doubt that the
majority of the people here want to know who you've slept with, or just
what kind of kinky things you do or have done. Use common sense. If it's
borderline, someone will tell you. Some things are just too far, you can
figure those out, so don't complain if you get a warning about something
like that. And yes, this does include killing the threads about
masturbation, incest, threesomes, etc.
10. Don't go wasting space. This includes quoting a lot more than you end up
writing, writing one or two word messages, and chain messages. There's a
lot of hidden information in a message that most people will never see that
adds a lot of overhead to mail transfers. Most sysops do not appreciate
spending that kind of money just to see the single word "Hello!" in the
body.
-=-=- Rules Procedures
If you break a rule, depending on circumstances you may get a "hint" from
either a moderator or a user. No big deal, but heed the hint, because that
will likely be your only one. You may also get a warning, which is something
to worry about. You may now be wondering how these warnings work. Well, I'll
tell you that too. (Ain't I the nice guy? :-)
The first two warnings are just that: warnings. To tell you to either shape up
or face the consequences. If you earn a third warning, a note will be sent to
your sysop telling him or her that your access is to be cut for 30 days. Once
the 30 days are up, you're allowed back into the echo. Of course, since you've
already been booted once, we'll be watching you like a hawk and judging you
harshly. That, however, is your own fault. If you earn a warning within three
months of your return, it is your only one. A second warning gets you removed
from this echo permanently. If you manage to keep your nose clean for those 3
months, then you're off the hook and back to normal. Warnings are also removed
if you have a clean record for three months. Good deal, eh? =)
-=-=- Moderators
I guess you all should know who's running this echo and who's not. It's
probably going to help some.
The main moderator is:
Anthony Frazier, at 1:2601/507.2
The Co-moderator is:
Nobody for now. However, when I pick someone, then you all will know.
The Co-moderator is hand-picked by the main moderator, and can change at a
moment's notice. The Co-mod is also fully active and has all the power I do,
save for changing the rules or moderators and using the "elastic clause".
However, the Co-mod not me, and may do things a little differently than I. If
you've got a problem with how the Co-mod is acting, then come to me with it and
give some examples to back up your claim.
If the Co-mod cannot contact the main moderator for more than 30 days, then the
Co-moderator assumes the position of main moderator. However, that's not
likely to happen anytime soon. But one never knows.
-=-=- Miscellaneous
Well, here they are: TEEN's bible as set by it's diety, Anthony. ;-) Do
remember that this is but a first draft, and contrary to popular belief, I am
only human sometimes. If you thing something's really wrong and really needs
changing, then tell me, and we'll see what can be worked out.
Pax tecum,
Anthony Frazier
